One point to note: in my experience the plug-and-play wizard normaly copies the
driver files it asks for from the location you point it to, and puts the copies in
C:\Windows\System (or some other sub-directory of C:\Windows).
But I have
come across odd cases of the wizard NOT copying files, but just setting a pointer
in the registry to point to C:\WinOld (for example).
Make sure that the
wizard has actually copies the driver files into some directory that you are not
intending to delete - before you
go ahead and delete the old directories!
Or use this excellent program
to make a backup copy of all the driver files your hardware needs, before you start
renaming directories and reinstalling Windows -
