Under Windows ME, the keyboard is configured by settings in the [keyboard] section
of the file SYSTEM.INI (located in the C:\WINDOWS directory), which specifies the
name and location of the driver file needed by the system.
That section will say something like this -
[keyboard]
keyboard.dll=
oemansi.bin=xlat437.bin
subtype=
type=4
Check your SYSTEM.INI file. From your description of the problem, the chances are
there is a mis-match between the details in the [keyboard] section in it and the
actual driver file that's on your disk.
Perhaps the file refered to by the section is missing from the folder C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
? Copying it back to there (e.g. from a .CAB file in C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS) would
maybe cure the problem.
