Disk Drive "D" problem

I need to move "my pictures" in my PC to a CD-Disk to open space on my hard drive. I have a DVD drive and a CD-Writer drive and Floppy disk drive. When I try to send my pictures to my DVD disk drive, I am asked to insert "disk into drive D". No matter what I try in switching drives, I get the same message. I know my computer has a removal disk D because it shows on my computer, but my local disk is (c) and does not change to "d" when I click O.K. to message. I will appreciate any advise on how to open drive D, or in the alternative, another way to move my pics to a CD. Thanks in advance.
