1) Tried to use one of e.g. Google's AJAX-y Web 2.0 sites
while you're using one of the browsers that will run under Win9x?
1a) How's your list of (un)trusted https sites on your out-of-support browser?
I'm guessing -many- years out of date.
2) As I recall, one of the reasons that you moved on (bought a newer box with XP)
was the trouble you had getting anti-whatever apps and a gratis software firewall
which would still run under Win9x.
I moved on and it didn't cost me a penny:
Linux costs $0 and it loves old hardware.
I haven't found a task yet that I can't do under Linux.
3) As your old gear dies and needs to be replaced (or you buy additional gear),
finding stuff at BuyMore with Win9x device drivers is simply an impossibility.
Windoze 98's vendor has called that OS dead.
Hardware and software vendors have heeded M$'s announcement.
Only those still whistling in the dark haven't taken M$ at its word.
Those would be the folks who have convinced themselves
that running software which no longer gets updates isn't foolish.
(See "https", above.)
...now, boot to a Linux CD and watch how all your stuff Just Works(tm)
--y'know, out of the box.

(Comes with a software firewall and doesn't need the anti-whatever nonsense.)
