Valve Software has a beta of a new version of their "Steam" gaming engine out. They dropped the Internet Explorer rendering engine (Trident) in favor of the WebKit engine (used by e.g. Google Chrome). http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=10/02/25/0640233&threshold=4 http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=10/02/25/0640233&threshold=4#31270998 cache of http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Acid3#Trident_-_Internet_Explorer ...and, oh yeah, they hate Win9x too: http://steamreview.org/posts/win98supportends/ On an interesting note, they took something that used to work quite well under WINE http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=1554 and made it do considerably worse. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=19444 (It appears that some guys have already figured out some tricks with one guy showing a jump from awful compatibility to pretty good.)
