Make sure you are trying to access the printer by its IP address. If you try to use a network name it will not work. The network name uses Netbios and that is not routable over the network. Pinging the printer's IP address is all you need to do to determine if you can communicate with it or not. If no ping response, then you have something configured wrong or somewhere it is blocked.
