There are changes in IE 7 and later that are not compatible with W2K so installing
it is blocked. Parts of the core of W2K would need to be updated and that isn't
going to happen. In fact, IE7 for instance, won't install on anything less than
Win XP SP2. It wouldn't function correctly even if it did install on W2K. Your
only choice is installing another browser that will work with W2K SP4 on the sites
that will require something higher than IE6. I will have to go to another browser
when forced too, so you aren't alone.

Google will also stop supporting IE 6 for mail etc. In time, searching with Google
will not work correctly either, which has already started happening..

Thank you so much for your reply really appreciate it. It was expected that IE7/IE8 would not compatible with W2k to upgrade. May be it is time for me to get a new computer but I am so used to my old friend W2k and it is hard to give it up ;-). Thanks again for your reply. JeanK

I don't have a answer to the email you sent about firefox and youtube. I have never
used youtube so am clueless about how to answer the question.

There are some good Firefox Forums, and probably some youtube Forums you could checkout.

Alternative solution for IE6 to IE8 upgrade

Try Lunascape: Firefox (Gecko) plus Safari (WebKit) plus IE6's Trident, for sites that need it. Compatible with Windows 2000 Professional.

although Lunascape versions 6.2 and higher no longer support Win2000.  read the "fine print" here:

http://www.lunascape.tv/Download/tabid/111/language/en-US/Default.aspx

"System Requirements

OS*: Windows XP SP1 or later/Vista/7/Server2003/Server2008
Memory: 1GB (recommended: 2GB or more)
Internet Explorer 6 or later

*Please note that since v6.2, Windows 2000 is no longer supported for using Gecko or WebKit engines, and Windows XP without service pack is no longer supported for using Gecko engine."
