Parts of the core of W2K would need to be updated and that isn't going to happen. In fact, IE7 for instance, won't install on anything less than Win XP SP2. It wouldn't function correctly even if it did install on W2K. Your only choice is installing another browser that will work with W2K SP4 on the sites that will require something higher than IE6. I will have to go to another browser when forced too, so you aren't alone. Google will also stop supporting IE 6 for mail etc. In time, searching with Google will not work correctly either, which has already started happening..
