I have two IBM machines that are preloads and I'm trying to figure out why the
standby key on this keyboard I'm using doesn't work. The keyboard works fine on other
machines, even other Windows 2000 machines but on these preloads, it doesn't and
I'm not sure why. I'm starting to get tempted to reinstall windows but I'd rather
not have to do that for a variety of reasons, so if I can figure out why this is
happening, it would be immensely helpful. I'm trying to figure out how windows assigns
actions to keys and while in the power panel, I have it set to put the computer into
standby when you press the "sleep" key, it does nothing. I have a feeling this standby
key on the keyboard has been reassigned to a task it cannot conduct and consequently
I can't get it to what I want. Weird thing is, the volume control works on this keyboard
despite not installing any drivers so windows has got to have some sort of layout
of some sort that allows certain keys on this multimedia keyboard to work despite
this keyboard not coming with the computer.
