The Trend Virus option in the BIOS should be disabled. It was always a pain and
pathetic for it's ability to properly report a real virus. It was out of date when
the PC was manufactured and boot viruses are rare these days, not to say that they
aren't still floating around. I haven't seen one (that the "Trend" was designed
for) in ages in all the PC's I have worked on. Lots of other malware and viruses
though. I would suspect a bad HDD or damaged boot sector. That will keep it from
booting properly or at all. As for other hardware possiblities, it could be any
number of things from heat to PSU issues, etc etc.. Hard to tell from a forum.
The drive manufacturer may have a utility that can check the drive to see if it reports
anything wrong. After that, I would do a clean install on a newer drive to see if
it could be the drive that is going bad. Not many other troubleshooting options
without some known good hardware to swap in IME...
