AV software does rely on new Virus Definitions though, so if all the Free ones stop working with 2000 then you are stuck. I have not use AV software with real time Protection for 10 years, and keep the Computer clean by not using Virus Magnets like IE, or Outlook express, and other Safe Computing Practices.
