Hi Jim
Well that's a hard one :)
In short all the icons on the bottom right side are taking ram to run, ram is one
key to get the PC to run quick and to load up quick.
Think about it like a train, windows is the eng. and every program that you load
up at boot will tax windows or say had more to the load.
windows can pull a great deal but it will slow it down, mass is mass ,it may be software
or hardware same thing so to speak.
The StartUp CPL will help but it will only do what you tell it to do, the real key
is the Task Mrg. and Service Controller program both will tell you what's loading
up and running in the background, (TSR) most background programs pull the most ram
without your OK, the Task Mrg. have 3 folders that will help you see what's going
on.
Then you can use the other programs to stop them from loading up at boot, most you
don't need running in the background that's to say the icon that's in the right hand
corner holds them in the ram so you can start them quick and easy.
But most don't drop the ram once you stop using them or to say put the ram back so
your other programs can use it.
But the real key to get your machine to load up quick is to let windows load up without
all the freight cars hooked on. :)
Once it up and moving you can add a freight car on and you will not see a slow down
so to speak, you can download programs that will put the ram back like Ram Idle Pro.
that will go get the ram and put it back in place so your other programs will run
quick.
But the key is not to load it up at boot.
The Service Controller XP is free software and will help you take control of your
machine.
---------------
Service Controller XP 2.2.61 it's free stuff
Service Controller XP is a handy interface that allows you to control your Windows
(NT/2000/XP) services.
You can instantly see which ones are running and view detailed information about
all the standard Windows services.
In addition, the program provides information that lets you decide whether to enable
or disable a service.
It prevents you from accidentally disabling critical operating system services and
suggest whether to disable a service or not based on the use of your computer (e.g.
Default, Gaming, Internet Gateway etc.)

how much ram it pulls.
